As a child, we would visit our family in Poland almost every summer and when my grandmother would ask me what I would want to eat, I always asked for rosół or beef bone broth soup! It was something I looked forward to the most on each trip. She had this big garden that my uncle and aunt’s would help tend to as well. She would go out and pick the vegetables fresh from the garden and bring them inside to prep for the soup. I loved getting to help her with that part.
As I grew older, I wanted to have some of the broth so that I could just drink out of a cup. Somewhat like a tea, but better. As I looked more into it, I found that bone broth, specifically made using bone marrow, may actually provide a lot more health benefits than I originally thought. Not only may the bones provide various vitamins and collagen, the bone marrow also provides another dose of various nutrients, making it a highly nutritious beverage, that may help with joints, inflammation and a healthy gut. So not only is it delicious, it may also be very beneficial to us. Count me in!
Bone broth can also be used as the base of many other recipes, such as other soups, rice and stews. Beef bone broth is specifically when you use beef bones, even better if beef bone marrow bones, and cook it in a large pot of water for almost half of a day. You can also use a variety of bones as the base, such as chicken bones, fish bones, or even leftover bones from a different recipe like roasted lamb or turkey. It is a tradition of ours to use the leftover bones from the turkey made on Thanksgiving to make a turkey broth to enjoy as an appetizer soup the next day.
This beef bone broth soup using beef marrow bones is very easy to make, it just takes almost half a day! Follow along with the print recipe listed below or watch as I prepare this recipe step by step in the following video.
